Rich May Congratulates Pro Bono Client Paraclete, Inc.
Rich May congratulates pro bono client Paraclete, Inc. on its sale of McDevitt Hall at 207 E Street, South Boston at the end of April. Paraclete had run after school educational enrichment programs out of the former St. Augustine’s Church convent until being forced to cease operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of 2020. Attorney Joseph Wang completed the negotiation of a purchase and sale agreement for the 100-year-old building to the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation several years ago at a previous law firm. A team of attorneys at Ropes and Gray took the lead on petitioning the Supreme Judicial Court to permit the sale of the building to another nonprofit corporation in order to preserve the building as affordable and/or senior housing. When permission was finally granted, Joseph was ready to step back in to help close the transaction. The proceeds of the sale will be redirected to Paraclete’s next chapter, while the SBNDC will renovate the building and convert it to much needed housing. Rich May salutes the work of both organizations and wishes both well in their respective new chapters.
